Turf Tavern

We were recently in Oxford (September 2009) and decided to finish up our day by visiting some of the more famous pubs for a pint. This has become somewhat of a tradition with us when we are in Oxford. I don't know why but we have never been to the Turf Tavern before even though I had heard of it as the famous Bill Clinton "didn't inhale" landmark. After asking several people for directions one young couple felt sorry for us and actually led us there (Thank you!). It was off the beaten path, down an alley and around a corner or two. It is not easy to find which I think adds to the charm. I fell in love with the place at once. It was surprisingly spacious, clean and well stocked with a nice variety of cold beer. Oh, the food was awesome too! The bartender was from Canada, a very jolly fellow with a great sense of humor and easy to like. My idea of the perfect beerslinger. The other bartender was a hard working young lady from Sussex with long golden hair, a beautiful smile and the face of an angel. I wish I could have gotten to know her better.... Anyhow, if you are in Oxford and you only get to visit one pub, go find the Turf Tavern. Great food, cold beer and a friendly staff that will make you feel like you are the only customer in the place, even when it's standing room only.
